Sehwag back in form !

This is very cheerful to the Indian cricket crazy fans ! Sehwag back to form ! He scored a brilliant 153 two days back !

The Indian team needs Sehwag. If you play Sehwag, you have an extra bowler and if you play Pathan, you have an extra batsman, said Sastri.

India's performance has not been bad, Down Under. Against the formidable Aussies, India did fairly well and emerged as the No 2 Test team in the world !

It is not easy for any team to defeat Australia !

India scores 526 !

A glorious 153 by Sachin, his 39th hundred, his 80th international hundred and a defiant 87 by Kumble and India scores over 500, for the second time in the series. Aussies reply - 62/0.

The day belonged to India, as Harbhajan with a 50 plus and Kumble with 87 defies the formidable Aussie pace attack !

India has gone in with 2 spinners and 3 swing bowlers. Indian spinners will have a lead role to play, if India is to win this Test match !

Sachin creates history, scores 39th hundred !

What a glorious innings ! His 39th hundred and with his 41 ODI hundreds, he has scored 80 hundreds in international cricket, an enviable record indeed !

He remained as the rock of Gibralter, taking on the might of the Aussie pace attack. Assuming the role of sheet anchor, he saw India finish at a respectable 309/5.

Sehwag and Laxman scored half centuries, while Dravid and Ganguly did not impress.

The Senior players need not lament that they are dropped. We saw a lot of criticism directed at the selectors. They simply opted for youth. The ODI and 20/20 team is different totally from a Test team.

India move to 2nd position in Tests, as per ICC Rankings

This is glorious ! India as the second best team in the world, after their sterling performance at Perth ! None of their bowlers rank in the first five, but they did havoc with the Aussie batsmen, skittling them out for 212 & 340 ! They swung the ball more than the Aussies !

Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly has been dropped for the ODI series. The ODI team is different from the Test team, as these three are good for Tests. Maybe age must have been the factor and the selectors wanted a younger side ! It is learnt that Dhoni wanted the T20 winning side. Suresh Raina is back, after an year !

India bowled well, says Ponting

India deserved to win, said Ponting. It is true that the Indian swing bowlers swung the ball more than their Aussie counterparts ! Young Ishant Sharma's bowling to Ponting was a revealation. Wasim Akram gave some fantastic tips to Pathan, just before the match.

Aussies were reduced to 61/5 at their den, from which they never truly recovered. Aussies were at a tremendous advanatage playing at their favourite ground, the fastest in the world. They had not lost any Test there ( except to an England side, when top Aussie players were not there ).

So India has created history at Perth, being the first subcontinental side, to shock the Aussies !

India beats the Lion in his den !

Incredible ! The Indian team beat Australia at Perth, considered to be the best home ground for the Kangaroos. All Indian bowlers did well and Aussies were bowled out !

Pathan took 3 wickets, RP Singh 2 and I Sharma 1. Kumble and Sehwag, the spinners, got 2 each.

Set 413 to win, Aussie fell short by 72 runs.

Beating Australia in Australia is no mean task and congrats to India for good team work !

Indian seamers assert themselves Down Under !

Indian seamers R P Singh with 4 wickets and Sharma, Pathan and Kumble with 2 wickets each, dismiss formidable Australia for 212 !

Singh bowled magnificently, moving the ball in the air and off the wicket. Ishant Sharma took the prize wicket of Ponting and the Kangaroos nosedived to 212.

In the second innings, Sehwag looks in ominous form, out of a total of 57/1. Hope tomorrow, there will be consolidation by India, who seems to be on the driver's seat

Dravid gets out at 93 !

India, from a position of strength, nosedives to 297/6. They were 275/4, when disaster struck. Rahul Dravid, who had played so well, got out for 93, just 10 minutes before stumps. This is the tenth time he is getting out in the nineties !

Sachin batted well for his 71. None of the other Indian batsmen could impress. Brett Lee grabbed 3 wickets and M Johnson two.

Let us hope Dhoni and Pathan will prosper in a good partnership.

RSA score 556/4 and declares

Three centuries ! By Greame Smith, A B De Villiers and Prince saw RSA cruise along to 556/4. WI are 23/0.

Hope WI will give a good fight in the second innings.

Kallis scored 74 and gave excellent support to the three centurions.

Down Under ACT scored 292/8. Rogers was out for 98 while Ishant Sharma took 3/26.

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Wasim Jaffer comes into form

Jaffer scored 92, Dravid 62 in a total of 325/9. ACT XI were 45/2.

In the other match, Graeme Smith scored 122 not out and West Indies were skittled out for 139. Shaun Pollock took 4/35 and WI innings were all over in just 4 hours.

Malcolm Speed of ICC says ICC will not buckle under Indian pressure. India had threatened to call off the tour, if the ban on Bajji is not lifted.

Hope the Indian batsmen will come into form and in the next Tests against Aussies, will assert themselves !

Controversial decisions mar Sydney Test

It was unfortunate that controversial umpiring decisions had marred the Sydney Test. Umpiring by Bucknor and Bensor was not even club standard !

BCCI has appealed to the ICC against the 3 match ban imposed on Bajji. No racist remarks were made, they said.

It is unfortunate that a gentleman's game is plagued by controversies and the gentlemanly Indian players are subjected to pressure. Australian players have been playing a psychological game all the time. When others resort to the same measures, they object !

Sachin scores 38th Test Hundred, 154 not out !

Sachin created history by scoring 154 no, his 38th Test hundred. He was involved in a 129 run partnership with Harbhajan Singh, who scored 63. This is a batting revival with both Laxman and Sachin scoring centuries. India finished with 532.

In the other Test, Ashwell Prince scored 98 and along with Boucher ( 59) gave RSA the first innings lead.

Both Tests seems to be well balanced and may prove thrilling at the end.

Laxman scores century !

History repeats itself. The same duo who shone during the last Australian tour, Laxman and Dravid, shone today. Laxman scored 109 and Dravid 53. Their partnership of 175 put India back into the game. India was 216/3 in reply to Australia's 463.

India was reeling at 8/1, when Jaffer was removed by Brett Lee. Then this wonderful partnership came into being, Laxman scoring his 12th hundred in Test cricket. Ganguly with 21 and Tendulkar with 9 were at the crease. Let us hope they continue the good work !

Umpires create controversy

Andrew Symonds was given not out at 30 against the bowling of Ishant Sharma. TV replays showed that he is out. Now Australia is 427/8, with Symonds on a 150. All these controversies add problems to India's woes.

Gavaskar has opined that those with Test experience should be made umpires. He has a point there.

India began well yesterday, gettting two early wickets. But this umpiring decision proved to be detrimental to India.

All marks to Symonds for a superb feat !
