English Media hails Dhoni and New India

The English Media paid tributes to the superb performance of the Indians at the Wankhede yesterday. "Masterly Dhoni brings joy to the whole of India " read one of the several headlines of the English media. India beat SL by six wickets to lift the WC, which they had won last in 1983.

The press was full of praise for the Indian skipper, M S Dhoni, who played a great, matchwinning innings of 91 not out to take India home, while chasing a stiff 275 in the WC Final.

"The epitome of new India dominated the match (World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka)," 'The Observer' observed.

"Masterly Dhoni brings joy to the whole of India," said 'The Guardian'.

"Dhoni is young enough to lead India to the next World Cup when he will be quite a rich man. Sachin Tendulkar could only contribute the briefest of cameos in his home town, 18 in 14 balls," said Vic Marks, the newspaper's writer on cricket.

"As for Muralitharan, initially he was treated with respect, but towards the end Dhoni punched him through the covers with awesome power. By the standards of old, Murali was bowling donkey drops and with his body creaking, he could not muster any more venom.

"Towards the end he held out his hands in exasperation at the wet ball, at the misfields, but the true cause of his despair was the realisation that he was impotent to stem the Indian tide. Sangakkara did not even turn to him when the position was dire," he added.

"Justice Dhoni, India's joy after toss row." proclaimed The 'News of the World' It said, "Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara was at the center of a cheat row before India stormed to a thrilling six-wicket World Cup win. "Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni ultimately smashed a huge six with 10 balls to spare to start the mother of all parties in the host country," it said.

The Indian victory is all sweeter, for it came without contributions from their best performing two in this WC, Sachin and Sehwag. In the past, they might have scored heavily, but the middle order played solidly in stands of 83, 109 and 54 not out.

"The way Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, M S Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh batted showed a self-assurance that had not been so evident when collapsing against England, South Africa and West Indies in the group stage." ( They collapsed because of the Powerplay, as they tried to hit the bowlers out of the ground ! ).

Martin Johnson wrote, in another write up in the same newspaper. "Nerveless Dhoni puts his house in order."

"India's captain and his team take pressure in their stride on way to a famous triumph. The hush when Sehwag was out to the second ball of the innings was nothing compared to the one when Tendulkar failed to expedite the script that had him winning the game single-handedly with his 100th international hundred, and anyone watching at home must have thought they'd accidentally sat down on the mute button," he said.

"It must have been tough for Dhoni to watch, which is perhaps why he promoted himself in the order. There was a job to do, and the captain decided to do it. Mind you, it shouldn't have been difficult to motivate himself. It was partly through a burning desire to do it for Mother India, but mostly a determination not to have to get the double-glazers in," he added.

The Englishmen are in for a treat as India tours England. "India are due to tour to play four Tests and five one-day internationals and the teams then meet for five ODIs and three Twenty20s in India later in the year."

The 'Sunday Telegraph' said, "India owed their second World Cup to their magnificent batsmen. Their two finest - Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag - did not score 20 between them, yet the remaining Indian batsmen knocked off the runs with six wickets and ten balls to spare in the highest successful run-chase that any of the ten cup finals has seen."

The report said, "the weight of expectation on India was enormous - from the outset of this tournament they have been the favourites - but they followed the example of their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in withstanding it. If Brazil win a football World Cup at home, they will have a small and silent fan-base compared to the Indian cricket team last evening and their 1.2 billion home supporters."

Sanga knew he had lost the toss : Vaughan

Former English captain Michael Vaughan has accused Sangakara, the SL captain, of cheating, during the toss that it was the skipper's " skullduggery" which induced a retoss !

There was confusion in the WC Final at the Wankhede, which India won by superb batsmanship to reclaim the WC after 28 long years ! ( How frustrated the Indians were ).

Vaughan wrote in his Twitter Page that Sanga had conned Dhoni.

"Sangakkara has stuffed Dhoni. He shouted tails in the first toss and lost it. You can hear it on air."

He later tweeted: "I hear tails shout at the toss..
Others hear heads... Inconclusive on the replays."

Vaughan said that Sanga knew he had lost the toss.

"I think there was a bit of skulduggery at the toss.

Kumar Sangakkara knew he'd lost that first toss, but he saw Dhoni hadn't really heard him!"

Adverse Jupiter cheated Sanga !

Sanga's 12th Jupiter deprived him of the World Cup. We knew that the twelfth transit of Jupiter is negative ( Dwadase Ravano Hanthi ).

Sanga was born with Aries Moon and his Saturn is favourable in the 6th. Because of a favourable Saturn, he could amass more than 400 runs. He was on his way to another hundred, when Bajji bowled him around his legs !

SL put in a great performance in scoring 274, which is considered good on the Mumbai track. But then he later confessed that anything less than 350 is not safe with India !

When we surveyed SL's horoscope, their indications were powerful. SL was running the second Elarata Saturn, known as Pongum Shani and Jupiter is in the favourable seventh. She is running Jupiter minor in Jupiter major and Jupiter is well posited in Sagittarius in his own house. So SL has a powerful chart and matched with India's.

So the clue was the 12th negative transit of Sanga. We knew that it is impossible to lift the WC, with the 12th Jupiterian transit.

The map of the Heavens at 0230 PM, 02042011, Mumbai.
LA means Lunar Ascendant ( Here Cancer Moon )

We wrote about the formidable five planetary configuration in Pisces. This is for all nations. In India's horoscope, it was in the benign 9th, the House of Fortune and in SL's, it was in the favourable 7th. But when reckoned from the Ascendant, it was in the 11th or the favourable House of Gains in India's horoscope and in the adverse 8th in the SL's. Again India scored in points.

Another factor was the Varabala. Saturday is ruled by Saturn and Saturn is more powerful in India's chart than in SL's.

Another factor was the Tarabala. Utharabhadra or Uthrattathi was ruling Sat evening and is ruled also by Saturn.

Hence, comparing both horoscopes, it was clear that India had the edge and hence we were confident of the Indian victory !

It was Jupiter, in the House of Fortune, which brought home the bacon for India. Saturn in the benign Third is the Wearer of the Crown ( moonnil shani mudi vechu vazhum ).

When we analysed the horoscopes of the cricket playing nations, only two nations had Jupiter and Saturn favourable - Sri Lanka and India. The bookies, without the knowledge of the heavens, had correctly given 4/1 and 3/1 odds to them respectively.

So then it was a comparative study of the horoscopes of both nations and India scored in astro points !

The Tenth negative Jovian transit did Pak in. The Twelth J transit did Aus in. SA choked because of the 8th dreaded transit of Saturn, even though Jupiter was in the favourable Second. While SL's luck was on the cards, the horoscope of her skipper, Sanga had a negative 12th Jovian transit and this did him in.

On the other hand, the Indian skipper's horoscope has a favourable Jupiterian ( Jove's favourable seventh transit ) and Saturnine ( second Elarata Saturn ) transit. He has Jupiter in the Ascendant or Lagna, which bestowed Divine Grace and made him intuitive. He is Mr Cool and is calm like a Yogi !

Dhoni lofts the World Cup !

Zaheer bowls three maiden overs and then removes Taranga - c Sehwag b Zaheer !

Sreeshant bowls fast at 145 kph but then Dilshan hit him for two fours and now SL are 22/1 off 7.4 overs !

There was some controversy regarding the toss and it was called twice.

This is a solid start by SL. 39/1 off 12 overs.

Sanga lofts Sreeshant for four and now SL are 44/1!

Dilshan sweeps Bajji and is clean bowled. SL 60/2!

Now Mahela has joined Sanga. Next will be Samaraweera and next Kapugedara. Then Thissara Pereira and then the tail !

Mahela and Sanga are playing well and SL's score crosses 100 runs. They are now 103/2.

Sanga slashes Yuvraj and is caught behind. SL 122/3 !

Now they have progressed to 154/3 off 33.5 overs.

Samaraweera sweeps Yuvraj and is ruled not out. Then India went for DRS and he is given out !

Dhoni brings in Zaheer and Kapugedra lobbs one onto Raina and SL are 184/5.

SL are now 205/5 off 44 overs ! Mahela is now 78 no off 75 balls !

Thissara Pereira hit the last ball of Zaheer for six and SL finish with 274/6, setting India 275 to win in the final ! Well batted, Sri Lanka !

Sehwag is out for the second ball, lbw to Malinga ! India 0/1 ! Now Sachin has hit a couple of fours and now India are 26/1!

Sachin slashes at one from Malinga and is caught behind. India 60/2. Young Kohli builds a partnership with Gambhir. Kohli tries to loft Dilshan and is caught and bowled.

Dhoni comes in at No 5 and now India are 183/3, needing 92 off 89 balls.

Gambhir tries to hit a four and is bowled by Pereira for 97. Dhoni came in at No 5 and played a match winning innings of 91 not out. Yuvraj was 21 not out.

4 runs were needed, when Dhoni lofted one into the stands. India became the World Champions !

This win put an end to the worries of one billion people. One billion were worried that Sachin may score a century and India may lose, they were worried their batting will collapse, and even when 50 runs were needed with six wickets in hand, they were worried !

India were reeling at 31/2, losing Sehwag and Sachin to Malinga. Then Kohli and Gambhir played superbly, before Kohli was caught and bowled. Then Dhoni promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj. The reason was both Yuvraj and Raina are southpaws and SL has two offspinners. The left right combination of Gambhir and Dhoni worked, as India clawed their way to 223, when Gambhir lost his patience and was bowled. Then Yuvraj came to partner Dhoni. Malinga was dangerous and both played him carefully. Dhoni hit two mighty sixes. One was a helicopter shot and the last shot into the stands was mighty ! India had won the World Cup !

All planets favourable for India created a great win ! Yesterday Moon moved from the adverse 8th to the favourable Ninth. No wonder such an auspicious event - winning the WC - took place when all the Nine Revolving Heavens were benign !

Dhoni was Adjudged Man of the Match, for his magnificent 91 not out. You should see the way he flicked the formidable Slinga Malinga for fours and lofted Kulasekhara into the stands.

Yuvraj was adjudged Man of the Tournament. Yuvraj took 15 wickets and scored 362 runs in the tournament and played a vital role in India's bumpy ride to the top !

It is said that the Pakis dropped the World Cup 4 times and SL once ( Gambhir was dropped by Kulasekhara. Anyway he did not turn to Kulasekhara and say " You have just dropped the WC, my son"). So Fortune has a lot to do with success and Fortune ( represented by Jupiter in the House of Fortune ) favoured India !

India peaking at the right time : Dhoni

Dhoni feels that his team is peaking at the right time.

The real contenders, SA, choked. The World Champions wilted. The mercurial
outsider faltered. The Ashes winners were out. Now the Elephant takes on the
Lion at Mumbai today.

The very fact that India has not played upto their full batting or bowling
potential indicates that India may have preserved their best for Saturday,
when they take on a well balanced Sri Lanka. Both teams are formidable and
it is not a David vs Goliath fight ( Some people say since India is a
cricket powerhouse and Sri Lanka is a small Emerald Isle size-wise, it s a
David vs Goliath fight. But not in cricketing skill. Pundits give 50-50
chance to both. )

"There is plenty more to come from us. We gained momentum as the tournament
went on and we are now peaking at the right time," said Dhoni on Friday, on
the eve of the all-Asian World Cup final.

"India has momentum, after defeating Aus and Pak. The good thing is that we
did not have a long break after the semifinal. We travelled from Mohali on
Thursday, practised on Friday and will play the match on Saturday. It does
not give anyone time to think too far ahead or worry about the future," he
said

No pressure playing before the home crowd, said the whirlwind wicket keeper.
"We are not thinking about Saturday's game as a final, for us every match is
a challenge and just as important. In the end you have to play the same way
and do the right things to succeed.

"Of course we realise this is a World Cup final. It can't get bigger than
this, but our preparations have to be the same. We want to do well in a
tournament like this because it is held in India and we never know when we
would get another opportunity like this."

On high expectations, he said " To give you an example, I was swapping
channels and they showed fans rejoicing outside my home in Ranchi after we
won against Pakistan. It was the same place where a few unwarranted things
happened during 2007. That's what really happens in India and it is better
to be at your best."

SL won in the last match at Mumbai. Dhoni, when asked about the Sri Lankan
victory at Mumbai, said: "We practised two-and-a-half hours in the middle
today, so we are quite familiar with the wicket and know what to expect."

Indian team checked into the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel, where the 26/11
happened. Dhoni said: "It was an emotional moment as to what happened there.
But the hotel staff greeted us warmly. We will certainly remember the day,
but we have to stay calm and composed and focused on our job."

Dhoni said winning the World Cup will not be a personal milestone, as his
team had won the T20WC in 2007 and became the numero uno Test Team in 2009.

"This is a team sport and here you don't think individually. The success of
the Indian team changed after the 1983 World Cup win and since then every
two or three years we had a player, who was special enough. And then came
the new era of players with Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, who
performed extremely well in the 2003 World Cup and the latest generation of
players came with the 2007 World Twenty20. For captains it is all about the
team and how different individuals respond to different challenges," said
the powerful wicket keeper captain.

Meanwhile, Imran opined that if not for that brilliant spell by Wahab Riaz, India could have gone on to 330. Still Raina at No 7 steered India to 260 !

India, with seven world class batsmen, still hold the edge in this absorbing final. It is true that SL's top three are great performers but then you cannot depend on 2 or 3 batsmen all the time.

The team which handles pressure better will win. India would like to crack the Lankan Code. The Lankan code is the unleashing of Maling, Murali and Herath to choke India. Kulasekhara and Pereira will lend support to the bowling combination.

It will be interesting to note the duel between SL bowlers and India's top seven batsmen ! SL bowlers will try to get Sehwag quick. So will Indian bowlers against Tharanga, Dilshan and Sanga !

But then cricket is a funny game and players whom we have not noted will rise to the occasion and deliver the goods. It need not be Sachin, Sehwag or Yuvraj for India or Tharanga, Dilshan or Sanga for SL. Other players may rise to the occasion and announce their presence in this absorbing final !

Go India Go ! This can be the Transfiguring Hour !

With Jupiter, Sun, Moon and the sports planet Mars in the auspicious 9th House or the House of Fortune, go India go ! Prove to the world that ye are professionals !

Mix caution with aggression and the Cup can be India's. Instead of lofting, hit the ball into the ground, as Yuvraj did and find the gaps. Bat like Michael Bevan !

Beware of the 3 Ms, Murali, Mendis ( or Herath ) and Malinga . The SL gameplan is to mix spin with pace, Murali and Mendis or Herath, the left arm and off spin pairing along with Malinga's slinging deliveries at more than 140 kph. This is their strategy to choke India ! In the semi final at Mohali, the Sri Lankans supported the Pakis. They wanted Afridi's side to win, because they reckoned that if they meet Pak in the Finals, they can win the Cup ! Facing Pak is easier than facing mighty India ! But then they were disappointed, as Afridi's men choked under the lights !

SL's 'formidable batting' proved to be a myth in the match against Pak, when they could not chase 278 under the lights. If Pak had held their chances, SL would have been all out for less than 200 !

O India, this is your golden chance. You will not get such a chance in the near future. On the green tops of Aus and NZ, 2015 WC will be difficult to get and you wont have the blessings of the planets as you have now ! ( At 0230 PM, on Saturday, 02042011, all planets will be favourable for India. Mercury, Mars, Sun, Moon and Jupiter in Pisces, in the Ninth, Venus in the 8th and the Nodes in the 6/12 positions. From the Moon, the five planetary configuration happens in the Ninth, the House of Fortune. From the Ascendant, it will be in the Eleventh, the House of Gains or the House of the Fulfillment of all desires. You cannot ask for a better planetary configuration ).

O Stars of Glory, O lights impregnated with mighty Power, give India the Cup that Counts !

There is another record awaiting Yuvraj. When he became Man of the Match four times, he had equalled the records of Aravinda DeSilva and Lance Kleusner. If he gets one more, it will be a new record !

Saturn in the Third is also favourable. Mars was a bit unfavourable till Mar 25th, which reflected on the Indian bowling and fielding. Now that bowling and fielding have improved, go, India, go !

More than a billion pray for India. Homas and pujas are being done. The Lord is on everyone's lips as 1210 million people anxiously wait for 1030 PM tomorrow, in a country where Cricket is Religion.

Cricket Diplomacy have succeeded and our brothers from Pak are now happy. The SL President will be watching the match, along with Indian dignitaries. Industry, Bollywood, politicians- all will be there to watch the Clash of the Titans, two formidable teams pitted against each other !

The Master and the Commander

In India's case, the Master is Sachin and the Commander is Dhoni. Sachin has 99 hundreds and have scored more than 32 K runs in int'l cricket.

In SL's case, the Master is Murali and the Commander is Sanga. Murali has 1347 wickets in int'l cricket.

Both Asian teams appear to be impregnable. Both are led by wicketkeepers. Another coincidence ! Both are led by astute, intelligent captains !

The WC 2011 will go down in history as one of the best thrilling WCs ever, with its thrilling matches decided in the 100th over and classical upsets. The ODI format has been revived.

Meanhwhile, Rahul Dravid has backed Day/Night Test cricket under the lights. MCC experimented with a pink ball. Dravid now backs all innovations in cricket !

Jayam Dehi, give us Victory ! India is the Guru of all nations and she will definitely bring in World Peace ! May Cricket be used to establish World Peace !

Sachin better than Bradman : Simon Hughes

The English writer, Simon Hughes has opined that Sachin is greater than Bradman !

Sachin with 99 centuries is far ahead of Ricky Ponting, who has 69 centuries.

In the Daily Telegraph, he wrote

“Tendulkar’s versatility, longevity and productivity are so far ahead of his closest rival in the game. Just as Don Bradman’s Test average of 99.94 was more than 50 per cent better than anyone else, so Tendulkar’s tally of 99 international hundreds is similarly out of reach of his nearest competitor, Ricky Ponting, who has 69,” Hughes wrote.

“When you factor in Tendulkar’s prowess in all countries and all conditions – averaging around 50 in every major country apart from Pakistan – and the burden of expectation of a billion people, he must be regarded as the best ever.”

“Bradman was extraordinary, but he only ever played in Australia and England. Bradman watched Tendulkar bat, famously saying that the way he fashioned runs reminded him of himself. Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman who ever took guard.” said the famous crikcet writer.

Anyway, Sachin was not a Steve Waugh to tell the Pakis " You have just dropped the World Cup, my sons" . While Waugh did it to Gibsy, Sachin was quiet.

It was obvious that Pak had dropped the WC four times. If they had beaten India, they would surely have beaten SL and made the WC their own !
