Borren bowls, SA 351/5 !
Now everybody knows that 350 plus is not enough on Indian batting pitches, hence they are going for massive scores.
Borren, the Netherlands captain, must have been swayed by overcast conditions and chose to bowl first.
SA went in without a fifth bowler, leaving Botha out. So Smith will have to depend on du Plessis, Duminy or Kallis as the fifth bowler. Van Wyk comes in to strengthen the middle order and SA have a powerful batting line up.
SA have lost their first wicket. Graeme Smith bowled by Loots for 20 ! Now they are 49/1 and Kallis has joined the master batsman, Amla !
The great Kallis is out to Tendo ( ten Doeschate ) for 2 and SA are 60/2.
Now no team can afford to be complacent, as minnows Ireland beat England yesterday. Everybody will say 328 is an enough total, but unfortuntaely Ireland decreed otherwise. O Brien, after hitting hundred, changed his strategy and left the strike to Mooney , who lofted Ireland to victory !
This is a 300 ball game and anything can happen, said Viv Richards. He was speculating on the chances of the WI. WI are ready to be amongst the top 4 teams in Gp B and from then on anything can happen.
Three good days in Office and any team can win the WC. This is the greatest Cup ever, if you go by performances, attendance and the number of viewers. After two thrilling matches, the fame of WC and ODI have gone up considerably and we can expect a packed Stadium and one billion plus viewers on Sunday, when IRE take on mighty India ! Cricket fever is peaking everywhere and will see the Zenith on 6th !
This is what happens when two world class batsmen get together. Amla and Bram Villiers have taken SA to 178/2. Amla is on 83 and Villiers on 65. SA's strength is their top order.
Now both Amla and Villiers have scored centuries and SA is on their way to a massive total. We can expect 350 plus. Amla had some lucky escapes but has established himself. This is Bram Villiers second ton in this WC and we can expect more fireworks from this world class batsman !
Amla is now gone, for 113 off 130 balls and Villers is now joined by du Plessis.
Villiers is now run out for 134 and SA are 288.4 in 46.1 overs. Du Plessis is on 4 and Duminy 0.
Trott yesterday equalled the fastest 1000 runs in ODI cricket. He reached that in his 21st innings. He equalled the records of Viv Richards and Pietersen yesterday.
SA finished at 351/5. There are instances of both teams scoring over 400 and the chasing team winning. ( Imran's Dew Factor Theory can also make or break. Hope there is no dew factor for SA to worry about. The Dew Factor becomes a problem during the day-night matches and not during day matches.)
So the Dutch will have to chase 351. SA is in a formidable position indeed !
Now Netherlands have lost eight wickets and we cannot expect an upset at this stage. Nor is South Africa England !
SA has won by 231 wons. They bowled out Netherlands for 120.
