Fierce Gilchrist takes revenge !

A great double century partnership of 206 runs, between Gilchrist and Marsh destroyed Bangalore. It surpassed the earlier record of 170, posted by G Smith and Bosman.

It was raining sixes and it was the highest partnership in T20 cricket. Bangalore were demolished by aggressive batting and lost by 111 runs.

This superb perfomance by Adam reminded one of the Gilchrist of old. With Marsh ( 79 not out ), the greatest partnership in the history of T20 was posted.

232/2 was the highest in IPL 2011. It was the very champagne of cricket all the way.

Bangalore was bundled out for 121 and thus Punjab recorded the second highest victory by 111 runs in the IPL. Bangalore's seven match winning streak was temporarily halted by a resurgent Punjab.

This is Preity's team's fourth win in a row and they will have to beat Deccans to stay in the reckoning.

Ryan Harris had Gayle caught behind for a blob and gone were the hopes of Bangalore. Kohli (11) was also dismissed by Harris and Bangalore seemed devastated.

Even though Bram Villiers put up a great front in scoring 34, none of the other Royals batsmen could partner him. Chawla, now in form, tore into the Bangalore batting line up with the
superb figures of 4/17.

Initially, Punjab had just scored 30 off six overs, when Gilchrist's power hitting changed the complexion of the game. Valthaty was out for 20 and then Shaun Marsh came to partner Gilly.

It was an avalanche of sixes from then on and in just 15 overs, 12 sixes flowed from the bat of Marsh and Gilly. It was murder in the first degree on the hapless Royals bowlers and they buckled under the terrific onslaught.

Gilly's whirlwind knock came off just 55 balls, his second IPL hundred. Marsh's 79 came off 45 balls and the great audience of the scenic Dharmasala stadium were treated by some vintage batting. The Aussie duo hit Van der Warth for 50 runs in his four overs ! Langveld was belted for 48 runs, but he took both wickets.

Gilly hit Mithun for a six and then Marsh and Gilly hit Aravind for a four and a six each. Kohli did not know what to do and brought in spinner Gayle. Gilchrist hit Gayle for two more sixes and Kohli was left gasping.

Gilly hit Langveld for three sixes. One of them was the biggest and landed out of the stadium - a distance of 122 meters.

The Punjab skipper completed his hundred - his second in the IPL - with a four off Langeveld in the third ball of the last over and was out in the penultimate ball.
